Spring of his sophomore year at Duke University, Gagan Vaseer decided to volunteer with the America Reads America Counts (ARAC) program, which works to improve primary-level math and reading skills of children in the Durham school system.




Applications are now open for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Members begin in early August 2013 and serve full-time for one full year, working with a community agency and a campus to develop a partnership that fights poverty.

 

Projects may address local needs in the following areas:






Emerging Leaders Fellow Program - Attention outstanding students or young leaders who are looking for opportunities in public service in North Carolina:

The Institute for Emerging Issues (IEI) at NC State University (IEI), with the generous support of BB&T, has established an Emerging Leaders Program as part of an extended effort to train our up-and-coming leaders. As part of this program, IEI will hire one outstanding recent graduate as its Emerging Leaders Fellow. The Fellow will work as an integral part of the IEI team on a variety of projects.

The Community Service Center is seeking TWO GRADUATE student candidates for the ARAC Programming Assistant Roles:  

Commitment:
An on-campus semester-long commitment required, a year-long commitment preferred to work up to 10 hours a week at the Duke CSC. Flexible work schedule available.




The 2013 Winter Forum: "Blue Devils and the Deep Blue Sea: Can We Rescue the Oceans?" will be hosted by the Nicholas School of the Environment and held at the Marine Lab in Beaufort, NC, on January 6-8, 2013. Applications are due by 5:00 pm on Friday, September 28.

Winter Forum is a two-and-a-half-day conference that brings together undergraduate students, faculty and experts to discuss, engage and learn about a global issue from multiple disciplines and cultural perspectives. The 2013 Winter Forum will be held at the Duke Marine Lab in Beaufort, NC. Bus transportation to and from the Marine Lab, lodging and meals are provided for all Winter Forum participants.
